Persatuan Mobiliti

Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur (the Mobility Association of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor) is a charitable organization approved by the Malaysian Registrar of Societies (ROS) in 30 January 2002. It is the first community transport service in Malaysia and also in South-East Asia.

Mobiliti is managed by an Executive Committee of thirteen people. All of whom volunteer their time. At the moment, 12 members of the Committee are people living with a disability. The current Acting President is Mr. Anthony Arokia.

Mobiliti's main objective is to operate a "door to door" transport service for wheelchair users (disable people) in Selangor and KL. Due to inaccessibility of the public transport system , most people living with a disability find it difficult, if not impossible, to make even a simple journey.

They also hope to become increasingly involved in advocacy work to promote and encourage improved accessibility in bulding and public transportation for elderly and disabled people.

At present we have over 660 disabled people registered as user of the service. We receive new registrations every week. Registration is free of charge. Their vans are available to registered users who nedd to go to clinics, hospitals, physio/dialysis centers, Govt. departments, banks or simply to go shopping or visits friends or relatives. Mobiliti disabled people make over 500 essential trips every month.

The Mobiliti transport service began in August 2002 with just one van. They now have six vehicles. 5 vans are fitted with hydraulic lifts (RICON - from the USA) and wheelchair restrain system (UNWIN - from the UK) which enable wheelchair users to travel comforably and securely without having to leave their wheelchairs. Their sixth van serves other groups such as the elderly with dementia or severe mobility issues, the learning disabled and the visually impaired.

Mobiliti service operates on week - days and Saturdays between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm. User are charged a minimal fare of RM 3.00 per journey, irrespective of their destinations.

Mobiliti currently employs a full - time Operations Manager, an office assistant (who is visually impaired) and 5 full time drivers. Mobility is managed by a committee of 13 people, the majority of whom are living with disabilities. Mobiliti is also supported by a team of volunteers who donate their time and efforts to support all activities and functions which we organise.
